Trends to Watch: Spring/Summer 2017 Runway

Constructed/Tailored Lace
Lace doesn't just belong on dainty, flowy dresses--and we're finally going to start seeing more structured outfits that use lace as its fabric. I have a feeling we're going to start seeing lace on blazers, trousers, maybe even trenches. Here's a blouse from Givenchy's SS17 collection:

Orange
Armani Prive's SS17 collection had a ton of gorgeous sherbet-orange dresses layered with yellows and reds. I'm really diggin' the sheer fabrics and sunset colors:

Gold and Blue
I got really excited when I saw this popping up in Elie Saab's SS17 collection, and can't wait to see some more tailored, less glittery versions of this color combo! Here's one from Ashish's SS17 collection:

Trends to Watch: Elie Saab Spring 2017

It takes about two years for runway looks to trickle down and influence the styles you find at department stores. For example, here's Valentino's Fall 2015 collection (that showed a lot of gorgeous botanical prints, mesh, and embroidery) above some new arrivals at h&m and forever21 for spring 2017:

Of course, there's always a ton of variety from a ton of designers every season, but once I fell in love with so many looks in this particular collection I've been patiently, patiently waiting for similar looks to pop up at stores I can afford (can't shop couture on a teacher's budget, after all!)

I keep this in mind as I watch runway shows--what stands out? what trends should I be on the lookout for? This spring, one of the trends that I'm loving is from Elie Saab's Spring 2017 collection, a color combination. Blue and gold.

The most common blue and yellow combo I see right now is a mustard yellow and steel blue (like the one from asos at the right) and I'm not that into it. The almost-nude gold from Elie Saab's collection contrasts really well with the deep navy blue and the lighter cerulean shade. I can see that palette translating easily to work clothes, and clothes for a night out. Any occasion where you want to make sure you look polished and elegant.

For now, it looks like my options are limited to blue clothes with gold jewelry and vice versa. Fingers crossed that changes soon!
